Cafe Nero – Dubai, UAE

London Weathered Yellow brick slips flying high in the UAE

For nearly 20 years, Café Nero has been steadily expanding and spreading the coffee love. Now with over 800 outlets this well-established chain has gained huge popularity across the globe.

Having a popular solid brand and distinctive style is what sets companies like Café Nero way ahead of their competitors.

Not only does Café Nero roast its own special blend of coffee but they have their own in house barista training academy too. This level of detail and care transcends through to the design and look of the chain.

Over the last few years Café Nero has rapidly established a great reputation across the UAE.

This superb case study delves into the design of these great outlets, and how they use brick slips within the design.

Design

Founded in the UK it is great to see that the designers have kept true to their heritage. Although based in one of the hottest and most glamorous cities in the world. This coffee shop plays its part in bringing a slice of Italia with a heavy shot of London thrown in for good measure.

To cope with the heat of the Dubai sun, it is very common for designers to look at creating light and airy themes. This is an important design element, and something that always needs to be balanced. This ambiance is key as coffee shops also need to be designed and built to keep customers coming back.

The design of this particular outlet is rich in both colour and texture. Timber features and furniture set against London weathered yellow brick slips, brings a great British feel to the shop.

Large and commanding glass frontages help the desert sun beam across the entire floor space.

Strong and distinctive textures break up the seating areas and create a relaxing and metropolitan atmosphere.

Product

London weathered yellow has a rich and diverse pallet of tones ranging from warm sandy yellows, salty whites and smokey charcoals. Indicative of classic London Clay bricks.

The designers choice to use real clay brick Slips is inspired. These are expertly cut from the best handmade bricks.london-metric-brick-slips
London Weathered Yellow is both light in texture and rich in colour which makes it a perfect choice for this installation.

A great product that exudes charm and sophistication. Here we see the installers have used a light grey pointing mortar to help darken the character of the walls appearance.

Result

Café Nero serves amazing quality coffee, in amazing quality surroundings. That being said it is almost a given that quality materials would be used when creating its stores.

A fantastic case study that exhibits in great detail how brick cladding can lift a room, embody a brand and create both traditional and modern tones.
