The Workshop – London, UK

Welcome to Brickslip perfection! Enjoy the journey.

Introduction

Reclaimed brick slips continue to hit new levels of superiority and masterfulness, the ever growing portfolio of high level installations that they are being chosen for has meant that recent demand has been huge.

In some cases budgets and functionality can take over from design, leaving the final result falling slightly short of the mark. ‘The Workshop’ at Riverside Capital London is one case study that we most definitely will not forget. This is a stunning office installation featuring our Olde Victorian Red blend brick slips, a project that really does greet us with awe.

Company

‘The Workshop’ is a driven and ambitious 21st century software company, in their words they are ‘Geeks’ with a rich culture for the art and craft of modern software design.

Their innovative nature, groundbreaking reputation and prominent position within London has afforded them the luxury of being able to occupy and surround their creative mantra with an office suite that breathes excellence and creativity, allowing its occupants to conceive new ideas and excel with ease.

Design

No better blank canvass could be provided than 8000 square feet of prime floor space, and being located at the prestigious regent arcade house elevates this project beyond the norm.

Our Olde Victorian Red blend Brick slips dominate and carve through this industrial styled unit providing a natural historic element and finishing it to precise effect.

Reception
This commanding and highly visual reception area boasts a custom floor illuminated reception desk, artistic in specification and crisp white in colour. The desk acts as a focal piece which contrasts against the solid oak flooring and the reclaimed brick slips which wrap round its wall surfaces.

The room is fresh and unique and has generous natural light source that helps to highlight the deep red brick tones and textures within the brick slip surface.

Waiting Area
This corner of the reception plays host to a tidy and simple waiting area a stunningly simple and calming area which greets with style and substance.
Solid glass doors and industrial conduit all assist the brick slips in becoming the key feature of this area.

Carriage Pods
This particular area of the design really does pull on the imagination of its occupants, the carriage pods have become a fancy trend of recent years but very few designers manage to complete them with this level of detail and modernity.

If you were to be blindfolded and walked into this building upon revealing this scene you could quite easily be on a movie set for the latest sci-fi blockbuster. The level of detail and creativity that has gone into finishing this particular area of the installation is outstanding.

If you were to take the reclaimed brick slips from this view then the clinical element of the design would almost certainly take over the senses. The unique use of reclaimed slips on the back wall is Oscar winning, and brings the whole design together harmoniously.

Kitchen
Black and white are colours that oppose each other they are each opposites, furthest away from each other on the shade scale, but when brought together they blend autonomously. The same can be said of these crisp white Italian kitchen units and the worn and historic look of the red clay brick slips.

Communal Office Suite
Making ‘fun’ tangible especially within a modern working office calls for a space where ideas and thoughts can germinate. This large office suite hails directly to the function of facilitating such creative prowess. This large office offers space and light ambiance, the large brick slip feature wall which dominates the hospitality wall brings a direct earthy feel and takes away any harshness that would be present in its absence.

Games Room
No modern technologically driven office suite would be complete without a trendy communal games area. Winding down and zoning out whilst at work is a must. Our Olde Victorian brick slips again bring delicate warmth and calming feel to these psychologically important areas.

Product

For authenticity and character there are very few products that can match the individual balanced appeal that reclaimed brick slips bring to a room.History manufactures these beautifully crafted pieces of clay with time gone by. Harbouring a unique weathered texture and warm tones our Olde Victorian red blend brick slips have proven a perfect choice for the Workshop project.

You can read about the history of the highly acclaimed brick slips in this article

The installers used a rapid setting adhesive to fix the brick slips to the wall surface and pointed the brick slips with our gun injected pointing mortar. On projects as large as this it is always advisable that gun injected mortar is used, this is for a number of reasons including speed and appearance. You can read more about gun injected mortar here

Result

It’s not a surprise to find out that ‘The Workshop’ manage and grow their business by a having a core ethos. By their own words they decide on a concept, they start creating and offer their clients solutions that hail the biggest impact.

These words and statements are highly evident in their design and implementation of materials within this triumphant office suite. Rarely do we see such modern facilities morph so fluidly with Reclaimed brick slips, the design book has been redefined within this single case study alone and we applaud the designer’s installers and suppliers that helped make this interior so fiercely special.
